A Wilde Weekend by Lough Ernest
August 5 - November 30
Location: Enniskillen - Northern Ireland
Arts Over Borders curates three consecutive multi-arts festivals along the Irish border (incorporating Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) across late July and most of August, bringing artists from both home and abroad to celebrate the Irish writers Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde and Brian Friel – all of whom had strong associations with border counties.
The festivals, Happy Days, A Wilde Weekend & Lughnasa FrielFest follow a bio-festival model, so that the programme takes its inspiration from the genius of a single artist and is curated with a strong sense of place, both rural & urban, throughout border communities and landscapes.
The emphasis is on unique, site-specific events, and venues have included underground caves, islands on a lake, beaches, the Walls of Derry, village halls, cafes, police stations, arts centres, schools, a crypt, a roadside, a pier and a mountain!
